Dr. Kathy Robison is a Licensed Psychologist who has provided mental health services to children and their families for over 16 years. Dr. Robison earned her Ph.D. in Psychology at Tulane University. Her course of study and internship were accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA). Dr. Robison worked at Mercy Family Center for 7 years, collaborating with colleagues in Psychiatry, social work, and counseling. She also led weekly meetings (through a post-Katrina grant-funded project) with school counselors for the purpose of referring children for evaluation or therapy. She is now in Private Practice in Metairie, LA. Her private practice is focused on the treatment of mental health needs through psycho-educational evaluations, parent consultation, and direct clinical therapy. Psycho-educational evaluations are comprehensive; all testing with your child is one-on-one with Dr. Robison. I do not use “psychometricians” for test administration, as I believe that observations made during testing provide insight into your child’s strengths and weaknesses. |
My clinical therapy “orientation” is Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, including Mindfulness-Based cognitive therapy. I specialize in the treatment of Anxiety Disorders and have had advanced training in the treatment of Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder. Psychologists are trained to be “Scientist-Practitioners.” Unlike master’s level counselors/therapists, we are trained to understand psychological research. The therapeutic methods I use for a disorder are “evidence-based”, which means that they have been shown to be effective treatment through rigorous research. With that said, I believe that developing an empathic, trusting relationship with you and your child is the first step toward healing. |
